Watching Jordis Unga on this season of The Voice reminded me of when singing competitions on television totally rocked out.
Jordis shot to the front of the pack on the first season of Rockstar: INXS; the concept of the show was based upon the surviving members of INXS auditioning new singers to replace the late Michael Hutchence. Jordis did not win, but she did touch many, many fans — and we are thrilled to have her on The Voice.
The following year, Dilana Smith was the female highlight of Rockstar: Supernova, a band build around Motley Crue’s Tommy Lee. Dilana and Jordis were two performers I discovered via those television shows, and after a half-of-a-decade, they still shine bright in my memory.
Browsing YouTube for some videos of Jordis from those days, I came across these clips of Dilana doing “Psycho Killer,” by Talking Heads and Jordis performing David Bowie’s “The Man Who Sold The World.” Love those songs and dig both deliveries. Enjoy.

I have to agree with you. Though I knew J.D. would become the temporary frontman for INXS, I still pulled for Jordis. When talking to Christina Aguilera and Michael Jackson while they worked on ideas for The Voice, Christina decided to bring Jordis onto her upcoming show. J.D. Fortune takes his stage name for J.D. Salinger, and for the character Jason Dean on Heathers (see Heather Locklear and Motley Crue’s Tommy Lee) and his surname for Michael Hutchence side project named Flame Fortune in the ’80s.
